Deb & Lexa's Team in Training PledgePage
My name is Deb. I am participating in Team in Training, a fundraising program for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I will be running 26.2 miles in the Marine Corp Marathon on October 28th. I first participated in Team in Training in 1994. At that time I was matched with a little girl, Lexa. She was 4 and had been battling Leukemia for more than a year. In 1998, she was scheduled for her 5 year checkup and then a celebration was planned as 5 years is the time period to be considered cured. However the doctors found that she had relapsed; the Leukemia was back and instead of going to a cure celebration she was admitted to the hospital to start another 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy. She is now 11 (that's her in the picture), has been done with chemotherapy since September of 2000. She now actively participates in softball, dance and on a boys' baseball team and shows little affect from the years of therapy. Her struggle with this disease has motivated me to endure another 26.2 miles in an attempt to eradicate this disease.
I have committed to raising $4,000 for Team in Training. The money donated will go to cancer research, family support groups, informational booklets and seminars for Leukemia patients and their families throughout the country. Previous donations have funded research that has helped the survival rate climb and has also been the catalyst for effective treatments for Hodgkin's disease, lymphomas and related cancers like lung and breast. If you would like to donate, please click on the donation button to the left. Your donation is 100% tax deductible and I will send you a receipt in the mail. Thanks for your time!! |
